Job Description Summary

This role focuses on cradle to grave product development of primarily position sensors, utilising existing/ in development electronic sensing technology. This includes but is not limited to; project managing, supporting project delivery through detailed engineering, creation and management of technical documentation, design for manufacture and assembly, cost effective and compliance to specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Development and Innovation – taking on responsibility for the mechanical design and development aspect of product developments, working closely in conjunction with the electronics development engineer to ensure that it fits within spatial constraints.
  • Sourcing/ producing and testing prototypes where necessary.
  • Creation and management of technical documentation pertaining to the development (BOM, Drawings, Datasheets, Technical Files, FMEA, UKCA/CE Marking, internal reports etc.).
  • Project manage to required timescales, specifications and budgets.
  • Maintain technical ownership of assigned designs through the project lifecycle, supporting production and customer delivery.
  • Design for manufacture and assembly, with awareness on cost control that doesn’t compromise on quality as a core priority.
  • Work with external suppliers supporting manufacturing activities of designed components. Work may also include identifying suitable suppliers at the procurement stage.
  • Design/ Sourcing of bespoke tooling for the assembly process.
  • Producing a top-level assembly instruction for the production department to follow.
  • Part Setup within ERP.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years industry experience in a engineering design environment
  • Experience with bringing product to market from concepts (i.e. full product life cycle)
  • Exposure to prototype development, testing and validation.
  • Proficient in Computer Aided Design systems (preferably Solidworks) to produce 3D model and 2D drawings for manufacture.
  • Knowledge and application of injection moulded , CNC, sheet metal component design/ assemblies.
  • Computer Literate (Microsoft Office/365/ Teams/ ERP systems).
  • To have excellent communication skills, with a high level of literacy (written and oral).
  • Self motivated to work with minimal supervision on multiple, simultaneous projects at any one time
  • High attention to detail and compliance to specifications.
  • Takes the initiative when confronted with design challenges.
  • Used to working at a fast pace.

Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or related field
