Job Description Summary

To fill an upcoming vacancy,  discoverIE are recruiting for a Group Tax Specialist to support the Head of Tax and Group Tax Manager in managing the Group’s taxes.

 Due to the small and entrepreneurial nature of the head office, the Group Tax Specialist would work closely with other head office staff and have regular exposure to the Group CFO and other Group management.

Overall this is an excellent opportunity to get involved in a wide range of UK and international tax aspects, working within a small team at the centre of a group which is continuing to develop and evolve. It provides the variety of experience that comes with a large group, whilst also working with businesses which operate with a smaller company ethos.

Key Responsibilities
  • Tax accounting including interim and full year group reporting and UK statutory accounts. The group reports under IFRS with interim and full year reporting.
  • UK and US tax compliance processes including managing the interaction between businesses and compliance advisors, US tax consolidation, oversight of R&D claims etc (the preparation of tax returns is outsourced but requires project management and review).
  • Reviewing/updating cash tax and ETR forecasts
  • Assisting the Head of Tax with M&A activity, including due diligence, structuring, SPAs & post-acquisition integration.
  • Transfer pricing e.g. updating annual master file, review of local documentation, potential planning opportunities.
  • Monitoring legislative changes affecting the group.
  • Supporting the Group’s operating businesses with their tax affairs and ad hoc planning/project work.
  • Withholding tax compliance on intragroup dividends and loans.
  • Tax risk and governance e.g. reviewing businesses tax processes, management of tax audits etc.
  • The role will be focussed on corporate tax but due to the nature of being a small inhouse team, the role will have exposure to other taxes including employment taxes.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • UK and international tax, primarily corporate tax.
  • Tax accounting (IFRS)/compliance/audit experience.
  • Computer skills – MS Office; strong Excel skills
  • Languages – English (fluent written and spoken)
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Employment tax knowledge.
  • Cross border tax planning, structuring and transfer pricing and/or M&A and/or VAT.
  • Previous experience in-house.
  • Familiarity with use of accounting consolidation systems (especially Oracle)
  • Languages – North, West or Eastern European or Chinese useful.

Qualifications

  • ACA (or equivalent) and/or CTA, at least 1-2 years post-qualified.
